The Hermit’s Grove
Gardening Catalog Reviews

Spring, 2008 ce

Bookmark this list of catalogs and garden resources. Please let us know of any vendors which might be added to this list. With over 130 vendors represented, this is a great list for your reference... Because we have several catalogs which are older, if we do not have a current issue the month and year are included.

When possible we've provided phone numbers so you can order a catalog for yourself. Unless a catalog has been rated * or **, it's definitely worth checking out!

***** one of our top favorites, can't be beat
**** very high recommendation, a valued vendor
*** good, definitely worth your time
** nothing outstanding about this vendor
* definitely thumbs down

We include the date for our most recent catalog edition in brackets [2006]. Because we cannot order from all, many do not send catalogs to people who haven’t spent money. If we haven’t received a catalog in more than a couple of years and there is no web site, the rating is usually lowered only because we’re no longer able to give our recommendation.

Web sites are verified prior to the annual edition of this catalog. Every web site listed for the 2008 edition of this catalog was working when I checked them January 16th [unless noted].

Should you find that one of our older listings has significant changes or has gone out of business, please let us know. And please, let us know of other candidates!

Abundant Life Seeds, P O Box 157, Saginaw, OR 97472-0157; 1-541-767-9606; http://www.abundantlifeseed.org. Continuing original the foundation’s work, Tom and Julie are deeply dedicated to the best quality seeds. The Foundation suffered a devastating fire in 2003 but thanks to the love this couple has for the plant world, we may continue to let you know about the new, improved (and exceptional) catalog. Many seeds, wonderful reading. Mellingers, a long-established family business in Ohio appears to have been lost. The 2005 catalog is all Harris Seeds and the products we loved from Mellingers are missing. The catalog which arrived with Mellinger’s name has Harris Seeds’ address, lists Harris (also) on the front cover, and is nearly indistinguishable from Harris Seeds 2003 catalog (even the same number of pages). We are very disappointed. The web site (late March, 2005) does not yet indicate this change. [2005] **
