Welcome to the home of The Rowan Tree Church and Hermit’s Grove!

In 2020, we celebrated our 40th year of incorporation as a Wiccan Church, and on December 30, 2021 our Founder and Eldermentor Rev. Paul V. Beyerl passed beyond the veil and is now among the ancestors. The Church and Tradition remain active and growing in the care of Rev. Paul’s successors. The Rowan Tree Church emerged in the 1970s as the public presence for The Tradition of Lothloriën, the Wiccan Tradition which emerged through Rev. Paul. The Tradition is described in Rev. Paul’s book A Wiccan Bardo, Revisited.

The Hermit’s Grove was established in 1993 to manage the educational programs Rev. Paul was offering in Los Angeles as well as the book publishing for these programs and for The Rowan Tree Church, The Hermit’s Grove also became the working name for the Beyerls’ home in Redmond, WA, which was gifted to The Rowan Tree Church in 1997 (the back acre) and 2008 (the front parcel with the buildings), well-known for its 45,000 sq ft of botanical gardens. In 2017 , The Rowan Tree and Hermit’s Grove were relocated to an 11 acre site overlooking the Root River Valley in southeastern Minnesota.

This combined site reflects the studies which were part of Rev. Paul’s landmark book, The Master Book of Herbalism, which entered the market in 1984. Our educational and retreat center located near Houston, Minnesota encompasses both our herbal and Wiccan study programs reflects these. The Rowan Tree Church offers The Mystery School for those who desire serious Pathworking taught with joy that takes one deeper than is easily found. We have a research library on site at The Hermit’s Grove and educational options with the Master Herbalist Program, a comprehensive course of study leading to certification. We also have studies in the tarot, astrology, gem & mineral lore and much more.

We are non-profit organization and federally-recognized Church. Our values are inclusive, ethical and friendly. Our online store offers a variety of products including books, educational materials, herbs by the ounce, gems and minerals, incense blends, and more!
